Life Insurance Consulting in Highlands, NJ
We help you work out how much life insurance your family actually needs, which kind fits, and what it will cost over the full life of the policy, not just the first year. You leave with a clear answer and the numbers behind it.
What life insurance consulting is for
Life insurance is one of the longest bills most people sign up for. A policy bought at 35 might run 20 or 30 years, or for life. So the real question is not what it costs this month. It's what it costs over its whole run, and whether it still does its job when your family needs it.
We sit down with you and look at your income, debts, kids, business and retirement plans. Then we work out a coverage amount that makes sense and compare term and permanent options side by side. That includes the costs that show up later: premium jumps at renewal, fees inside the policy, and what happens if you stop paying.
It's the right call when your life has changed, when someone handed you a policy pitch you can't judge, or when you own old coverage and don't know if it still fits.

What we cover in a consultation
- 01
A needs number you can explain
We add up what your family would need to replace: income, the mortgage balance, college, debts and final costs. Then we subtract what you already have in savings and workplace coverage. You see every line.
- 02
Term versus permanent, side by side
Term costs less and ends on a set date. Permanent coverage costs more and builds cash value, but it carries fees and needs watching. We lay out total premiums over 10, 20 and 30 years so you compare like for like.
- 03
Review of policies you already own
Bring your current policy and its latest annual statement. We check the death benefit, premium schedule, riders and any cash value. Then we tell you plainly whether to keep it, adjust it or let it go.
- 04
Workplace coverage check
Group life through an employer helps, but it is often tied to the job. We look at how much you have, whether it can follow you if you leave, and how much private coverage should sit on top.
- 05
Coverage for business owners
For owners, we look at key person coverage and funding for a buy-sell agreement, so the business and your family are not left guessing if a partner dies.
- 06
Fit with the rest of your plan
Life insurance touches your estate, taxes and retirement. We tie it to your legacy planning and financial planning so beneficiaries and ownership line up with your other documents.
Questions about Life Insurance Consulting?
Call(732) 931-2706Signs it's time to look at your coverage
A new baby, mortgage or marriage
Each one raises what your family would need. Coverage bought before those changes is often too small.
Your term is ending soon
Many level-term policies jump sharply in price once the term ends. If yours ends in the next few years, plan before the renewal notices arrive.
Your premium rose and nobody explained why
Some universal life policies charge more inside the policy as you age. If the cash value is shrinking, the policy may lapse sooner than you expected.
Someone pitched you a policy
If you were shown a big illustration and asked to sign, we'll read it with you. You'll know what is only projected and what the contract actually promises.
Your only coverage is through work
If the job ends, that coverage may end too. Buying later usually costs more because you're older.
Your beneficiaries are out of date
Divorce, deaths and new grandchildren all change who should get the money. Beneficiary forms usually control over what your will says, so they need to be right.
How a consultation works
- 1
Introductory meeting
We start with a conversation, at our office or by phone or video, whichever is easier for you. You tell us your goals and who relies on your paycheck. We explain how we work and what we'd like to look over.
- 2
Gather the paperwork
Bring current policies, annual statements, employer benefit summaries and a rough picture of debts and savings. If something is missing, we'll show you how to ask the insurer for it.
- 3
Run the numbers
We size your coverage and compare options over their full length. You see the first-year premium next to the total cost over time, plus what each policy needs from you to stay in force.
- 4
Walk through the choices
We go over it together in plain terms. If your current coverage is fine, we say so. If a change makes sense, we explain why and what it costs.
- 5
Check in after big changes
Coverage deserves a fresh look after a marriage, a birth, a business sale or retirement. We'll let you know when a review is worth your time.
What affects the cost of coverage
You're paying for two things here: our advice and the policy itself. We explain how we're paid during the introductory meeting, before we recommend anything. Policy pricing comes down to the factors below, and we show how each one plays out over the years, not just on the monthly bill.
- Age and health
- Insurers set prices using your age, health history and tobacco use. Waiting a year usually means a higher price, and a new diagnosis can move it a lot.
- How much and for how long
- Every extra dollar of death benefit and every extra year of term adds to the premium. We match both to what your family would really need, so you don't carry coverage that outlasts its purpose.
- Type of policy
- Term costs less now. Permanent coverage costs more but can last for life. Which is the better value depends on how long you truly need coverage.
- Riders and internal charges
- Add-ons like waiver of premium or long-term care riders raise the premium. Permanent policies also carry internal charges that grow with age.
- Upkeep to stay in force
- Some policies need regular reviews and extra funding down the road. A low starting premium that needs more money later can cost more in the end.
Life insurance questions we hear
Is term or whole life better?
Neither one wins every time. Term usually fits people who need coverage for a set stretch, such as until the kids are grown or the mortgage is gone. Permanent coverage can fit estate needs, a child with special needs or business planning. We price both over the same number of years so you can see the trade-off.
How much life insurance do I need?
Rules of thumb like ten times your income are a place to start, not an answer. We build the number from your debts, income, family plans and the coverage you already hold. The result often differs from what people were told.
Is it smart to drop an older policy for a newer one?
Hold off until we've looked at both. A switch can bring fresh surrender charges, a new contestability period and higher rates because you're older now. Sometimes the trade still pays off. We'll lay out the math so you can decide.
Can you look at a policy someone else sold me?
Yes. Bring the contract and the latest statement. We'll explain what it does, what it charges inside, and whether it still matches your goals.
Do we have to meet in person?
No. You can come to our office, or we can cover it on a phone or video call if that fits your schedule better. Clients in Middletown, Red Bank and the rest of the area can handle every step by video.
